It was Night Four of the Battles! The coaches were making the necessary cuts before the Knockouts. Only it wasn’t easy. They’ve come to know everyone. They’ve heard their stories. They see how much getting picked means to them and tonight they had to take that away from some of them. They could only keep the best. Up first was Team Reba. Reba chose to pair Al Boogie with Ruby Leigh. They were both Country. They were both Old School Country and let’s be honest here – Reba didn’t need two of them.

Which why Reba paired these two together. She gave them the classic song “Jolene” by Dolly Parton. It truly was a classic because everyone has heard it at least once and it was quite a difficult song to perform. Ruby and Al therefore knew this song. They loved this song and still it was an uphill battle for them to perform it. Much less perform it as a duet. Al’s nerves got to him during rehearsals. Ruby has no concept of the meaning behind the song because she’s just sixteen. She’s never had to fight for her man.

Reba had to step up as a coach here. She had to remind them of the message behind the song as well as saying that not every note needed to be perfect. It just needed to be felt! She eventually got them to where they needed to be because they put on a great performance to open up their night. Reba was impressed by the both of them. She didn’t want to lose either and she was forced to by the situation. Reba came to agree with the rest of the coaches that Ruby won this Battle. She showed such incredible range at sixteen and Reba can go very far in this competition with her.

Al was sadly eliminated tonight, but he can always come back next year. Nex up was Team Gwen. Gwen paired Joslyn Rose with Rudi. She loved that they were both Storytellers. They took everyone on a journey with their voice. Multiple coaches wanted the both of them. They were also young. Gwen initially picked them for her team because she knew she could coach them into giving their best performance and it helped that these two became friends. They weren’t competing against each other. Or at least that’s not how they saw it.

They each gave the other a chance to shine with the song. They were given “My Immortal” by Evanescence. It was a rocker song. It was a meaningful song. Rudi better understood it because she knows loss. She lost her grandmother who she was really close to. Her grandfather had died the same year she was born and so her grandmother saw her as the blessing to help her through her own grief. Josslyn on the other hand was a young kid that wanted to do the song perfect. And her relaxed vibe gave Gwen a strong Billie Eilish impression.

For the performance, Rudi pulled out ahead. Her voice ached through the song. She felt the song and she made others feel her grief through this song. Josslyn wasn’t bad either. She just got too caught up in the song. She was still learning not to close her eyes during her performances. She was a kid and it was a probably a coping mechanism to help her perform in front of an audience. She needs to work on that. And she could do that at home, Gwen chose Rudi as the winner of this particular Battle and Josslyn was eliminated tonight.

Next up was Team Niall. Niall paired Noah Spencer with Reid Zingale. These two were also storytellers. Noah was Country. Reid was Folk. These two didn’t understand their pairing until they started working together and realized they have a lot in common. They ended up becoming good friends after they were paired together because that was the first time they truly noticed the other. Now they were best friends. They were playing practical jokes on each other. They were laughing all the time.

It was a shame it had to come to an end tonight. They were separated by circumstance. Niall knew going into this one that this Battle was going to be tough. He gave them the song “Lego House” by Ed Sheeran. Both artists got to perform it on their guitar along with singing to it. Only this song was more up Reid’s alley than Noah’s. Noah went on to make up for that by bringing up that grit they all loved. Niall also coached them so well that it was a great performance only the winner was clear. The winner was Noah. Noah offers up so much more and Reid was eliminated tonight.

Team John was up next. He paired Azan with Taylor Deneen. These two have similar vibes and energy. They were a match stylistically because they have that same Soulful voice. They were perfect on John’s team. It’s why they both chose John during the Blinds only they were so similar that he didn’t need two of them. He just needed the one. Which is why he gave them a tough song. He gave them “Do It” by Chloe and Halle. Chloe and Halle are sisters. They grew up performing together and that can’t be matched by a week of friendship.

Azán and Taylor still needed to add things to their performance. Something to make it spectacular! They came up with a choreography during the performance and they held it all way through. All the judges were later amazed at how good these two sound together. They gave everyone a performance worthy of the name. It was a tough choice for John there at the end. He loved that Azán came up with the choreography. He loved that Taylor found herself in song. He chose Taylor and then two people used their Steals to try and get Azán for their team.

Reba wanted her. Niall wanted her. Azán could only choose one and she chose Niall. Like it wasn’t even a deep consideration. She ran running into Niall’s arms the moment she saw he used his Steal for her. Up next was Team Niall. He paired up Alexa Wildish with Lvndr. He said they were both Storytellers. Which is why he gave the best storytelling song possible. He gave them “Everything I Wanted” by Billie Eilish. Niall’s artists were a bit antsy going into the performance. They were used to performing behind an instrument. And so they didn’t know what to do with their hands.

They literally asked him about it. About what they could be doing to stay a part of the song even as the other is singing her part. They hadn’t wanted to appear checked out. Their anxiety couldn’t handle that and so Niall taught them a few tricks to maintaining composure onstage. He told them to imagine themselves in a bubble. The bubble was protecting them from everyone else. The others needed to get invited to come into the bubble. And that’s what they did with their performance tonight.

It was a great performance. Most of the other coaches picked Alexa as the winner of this battle. Niall must have agreed because he chose to keep Alexa and Lvndr was eliminated tonight. Next up was Team Gwen. She paired Jenna Marquis with someone else only we never got to see the full performance or be introduced to them. The only reason Jenna’s name is known is because she won her Battle against this other woman. And it practically happened all throughout the commercial break.

Next up was Team John. He paired Kaylee Shimizu with Elizabeth Evans. They were both powerhouses. Even if they go about it in different ways. One can suck you in and the other will blow you away. These two were given “Traitor” by Olivia Rodrigo. John came to regret these two ‘s pairing. He loved their performance during rehearsals. He claimed it was the best of the night and so he went into the live show fearing he was ripping apart his team by eliminating one. The judges have two Steals and no Save tonight.

The judges were also split tonight about the winner of this Battle. The performance itself was amazing. It was the greatest of the night only John has to choose one. He chose Kaylee. And Elizabeth was Stolen by Queen Reba.

THE END!
