A Brisbane delivery driver who became an instant millionaire after winning a beachfront prize home last year has sold the Currumbin property for $7.2 million.
The three-storey house at 14A Darwalla Ave, one of only ten absolute beachfront homes in the coveted southern Gold Coast suburb, was marketed by Harcourts Coastal agent Ed Cherry.
The luxury property was part of the RSL Art Union’s October 2022 prize draw valued at $10.6m, but was listed with a $7.9m price tag in March after its scheduled auction did not go ahead.
Mr Cherry said the 37-year-old vendor, whose name was withheld, planned to use profits from the dream house sale to fund an epic road trip around Australia.
“He is a super down-to-earth guy who has just been looking forward to buying a Toyota LandCruiser 300 series and a caravan and travelling around Australia,” Mr Cherry said.
With a 2023 LandCruiser and top-of-the-range caravan coming it at about $300,000, the vendor will have plenty of change to purchase a house in the Moreton Bay region, close to family and friends in north Brisbane.
He kept up his daily route delivering meals throughout southeast Queensland up until March when he sold the business, which brought in annual earnings of just under $200,000.
“My life has definitely changed, but it’s taken a little bit for me to gfet in tune with the new lifestyle and it still feels like a dream,” the prize winner said on listing the property.

Mr Cherry said the sale achieved a higher price per sqm than a suburb record transaction in May 2021 of $11.3m for a property at 16 Darwalla Ave.
“This most recent sale shows the prestige beachfront market is still tracking steadily. There is continued confidence in the tightly held southern beachfront market and people will pay a decent price for a product that isn’t to be replicated,” he said.
Mr Cherry said the buyers were a local family with two children who weren’t actively looking, but noticed the Habitat Studio Architects-designed house while cycling along the Oceanway.
They made an offer after finding the listing price had been reduced to $7.25m in May.
Built by Makin Constructions on a 632 sqm lot, the contemporary home has floor-to-ceiling glass and wide balconies allowing views to take centre stage.
Features include custom cabinetry, timber floors and exposed beams, plus a furniture package worth $320,000 included.
On the ground floor, the elegant kitchen and open-plan living and dining areas lead out to a covered al fresco space and pool.
Three bedrooms, a bathroom and second living space plus loft-style office are on the second floor, while the top level hosts the retreat-style master bedroom with walk-in robe, ensuite and a private terrace.
PropTrack data shows house prices in Currumbin were down 4.9 per cent over the past 12 months to a median of $1.47m.
